Longvida® Optimized Curcumin named 2015 ‘University Research of the Year’

A new study into the brain health benefits of Longvida® Optimized Curcumin was awarded as Nutraingredients' "University Research of the Year" for 2015.

That study, entitled "Effect of curcumin on cognitive function and mood in healthy older humans" and conducted at Swiburne University's Centre for Human Psychopharmacology in Melbourne, Australia, was recognized as being among the first research to draw a correlation between curcumin use and brain health for older adults. Those findings, published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology, determined that study participants who were given one 400mg capsule of Longvida® exhibited increased performance in attention and memory support just one hour after taking it. Taking Longvida® supplements over a 30-day period was also found to increase feelings of calmness and contentedness, and decrease feelings of fatigue, compared to those participants who were taking placebos.

"Behavioral measures showed that […] curcumin has the potential to improve important cognitive functions, reduce fatigue and improve resilience to the detrimental effects of psychological stress on mood," the study's authors said in an official statement. "Curcumin may help to combat fatigue by improving the maintenance of energy levels and ability to meet energy demands through its effects on mitochondrial function, AMP-activated protein kinase and glucose uptake and regulation."

In a separate statement, lead author Dr. Andrea Zangara thanked Nutraingredients for the accolade, exclaiming that, "It was a pleasure and an honor to support a fantastic product and a ground breaking study, thanks to you for the opportunity."
