Refrigerated Probiotic Policy
Our manufacturers formulate their probiotics with overages of live cultures to ensure their products retain viability until they reach the consumer. All probiotics requiring refrigeration are shipped from our warehouse and remain refrigerated until the time of shipment. During warmer months these probiotics are shipped with a cold and thermal pack to ensure potency. Please be aware that cold packs will not arrive frozen and product will not arrive cold. During excessive heat, probiotics will inevitably arrive warm. This product is shipped Monday through Wednesday until 12:00 noon eastern time. Orders received after 12:00 noon on Wednesdays will be held for shipment the following Monday (excluding holidays). A physical address (not post office box) will be required to order this product. Saccharomyces boulardii is a non-pathogenic, transient yeast with probiotic-like actions long-used for diarrhea or dysentery. It is a hardy, acid-resistant, temperature tolerant microorganism that is not affected by antibacterial agents. S. boulardii is genetically and functionally distinct from brewer’s yeast (S. cerevisiae) and different from pathogenic Candida species.
S. boulardii increases the activities of intestinal brush border enzymes such as disaccharidases, a-glucosidases, alkaline phosphatases, and aminopeptidases. It secretes a leucine aminopeptidase that appears to support against allergies to dietary proteins following acute gastroenteritis. S. boulardii augments the intestinal absorption of D-glucose coupled with sodium that may enhance uptake of water and electrolytes during diarrhea. It increases stool concentrations of short-chain fatty acids that nourish colon mucosal cells. Oral intake of S. boulardii increases colonic populations of healthful bifidobacteria and reduces numbers of pathogenic clostridia. It modulates immunity by boosting intestinal secretion of IgA and increasing crypt cell immuno-globulin receptors. It inhibits inflammatory cytokine pathways and secretes a factor that blocks C. difficile toxin A activities.
Research has found that S. boulardii supports healthy intestinal function in an array of clinical settings including antibiotic-associated diarrhea, C. difficile disease, inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, and traveler’s diarrhea. Nutrivene S. boulardii is American Type Culture Collection (ATCC) certified and freeze-dried to maintain maximum potency and viability. Many manufacturers substitute brewer’s or baker’s yeast and use lactose in production.
Each capsule of Nutrivene S. Boulardii contains 320 mg (3+ billion CFUs) S. Boulardii.
Other ingredients include vegetarian capsule (hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose, water), and L-leucine.
This product is free of the following common allergens: milk/casein, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat/gluten, corn and soybeans. Contains no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives.
Suggested Use: As a dietary supplement take one capsule twice daily with a meal or as directed by a physician. S. Boulardii is generally well-tolerated however, a few contraindications exist. People with known allergies to Saccharomyces cergisiae should avoid use of S. boulardii. Currently no clinical studies on the safety of S. boulardii during pregnancy are available. Pregnant women should consult a healthcare professional before use. There have been reports of opportunistic infections in severely immunocompromised patients and in patients with indwellingvascular catheters after supplementation of S. boulardii. In rare cases, people with an indwelling vascular catheter sharing a hospital room with a person taking S. boulardii have developed catheter and blood stream S. boulardii infections. It is likely these catheter and blood infections were related to careless handling of the S. boulardii and poor hand washing by the medical staff. S. Boulardii should be used with caution in severely immunocompromised patients. People with chronic indwelling vascular catheters should not use S. Boulardii.
Each bottle of Nutrivene S. Boulardii contains 60 capsules.
