Is your kitchen stocked with this healthy ‘must-have?’

It might seem counterintuitive to think a physician and author of a series of a books on healthy eating also experienced health problems, but Dr. Alejandro Junger is no stranger to the effects of eating a poor diet. Junger, author of the book Clean, Clean Gut and it's follow-up, Clean Eats knows as well as anyone the role that diet plays in promoting or hindering health.

According to Junger, toxic eating habits contribute to health ailments. For Junger, a detox from "toxic triggers" in his diet led him to experience serious health improvements. Sustainable recipes that incorporate fresh organic produce played a key role as the author adopted new eating habits. This process is part of what led Junger to transform his health by eating clean, and eventually write a book about it.

"I had all kinds of serious health problems. I was like my patients—I had allergies, I had irritable bowel syndrome, I was depressed, and I didn't want a life on drugs that was being prescribed," Junger tells Well and Good.

The doctor, who is now based in Los Angeles, recommends several items to include in a healthy kitchen. Having a supply of healthy staples on hand and ready to go in the kitchen can make it easier and quicker to prepare meals. Included among his list of "must-have" ingredients is organic seaweed.
