Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurological disorder that is characterized by hyperactivity, forgetfulness, impulsivity, and distractability. When only impulsivity and distractability are present, it is considered Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD).
It is estimated that between 3 - 5% of children in the United States have ADHD. Boys are three times more likely to be diagnosed with ADHD than girls. Researchers estimate that almost 8 million adults may be affected by ADHD but most of them have never been diagnosed.
Factors sometimes linked to ADHD are heredity, anxiety, allergies, environmental stress/pollutants, artificial food additives, injury, infection, prenatal trauma, and smoking during pregnancy.

Description:

Diabetes is a disease where the body does not produce enough or properly use insulin. It is estimated that 15 million people in the U.S. have diabetes and it is considered the 7th leading cause of death.
There are two types of diabetes: type 1 (insulin dependent) and type 2 which is the more common of the two, affecting more than 90% of those diagnosed. Diabetes is associated with heart disease, kidney disease, nerve damage, edema, and infections.
As we age, maintaining healthy blood sugar levels is critical for good health. Research suggests that those who keep their blood sugar levels within specific ranges reduce the risk of complications from diabetes. |

Down syndrome is a disorder caused by the presence of extra genetic material in cells of a developing embryo. Down syndrome is usually caused by nondisjunction in which an error in cell division produces three copies of a chromosome rather than two.
It is well documented that metabolism in individuals with Down syndrome differs from those with typical chromosomes. Issues common in Down syndrome are immune dysfunction, reduced growth, lipoprotein problems, and an increased risk for Alzheimer's. |
